BRC SUMMER YOUTH CAMP

2025, Over 50 Years of Summer Camp Experience...

2025 Marks the Brockville Rowing Club's 51st year of running summer youth camps. During this time, the BRC's Summer Youth Camp has been the first start line for all of our rowers.

This year is especially exciting, as we have partnered with the YMCA of Eastern Ontario to enhance the offerings of the BRC's Summer Youth Camp. This collaboration combines the best of both organizations to deliver a more enriching, active, and fun-filled camp for your children.

Summer Youth Camps at the BRC have led to more than twenty-five Canadian National Team Rowers, it has led to more than thirty scholarships to post secondary institutions across North America and beyond, and has made more than one-hundred provincial and/or national champions.

It's safe to say: we know rowing!

Why BRC Summer Youth Camps?

Two of our 2024 Summer Campers enjoying the beautiful St. Lawrence River.

Health and Wellness

We teach campers how to have a healthy relationship with sport, encompassing everything from warm-up, cool-down, and how to row a boat up (and back down) the river.

Teamwork

Rowing is the ultimate team sport. Our campers learn and practice teamwork in a variety of ways, with rowing being at the core.

Elevate

We elevate each of our campers to be the best version of themselves in a fun and supportive environment. Opportunities and skills exist here that will last a lifetime.

What kind of boats do campers row in?

In rowing, there are two different styles: sweep (one oar per person), and sculling (two oars per person). There are also two different disciplines in the sport: traditional/flat-water rowing, and coastal/ocean rowing.

Here at the BRC, we're fortunate enough to be able to offer all of the above to our campers! They can expect to learn how to row in several different boats, in each style, and try out both disciplines!

Who is the BRC's Summer Youth Camp For?

Our Summer Camp Program is designed for kids between the ages of 11 - 14.

Why 11 - 14?

Rowing is similar to a sport like golf, in that learning how to hold and in our case, sit in the equipment, is a skill in and of itself. We've found that the age range of 11-14 is the sweet spot for kids to be tall and mature enough, as well as to be able to fully understand the sport, and have a great experience doing so!

What if my child is really tall?

If you're unsure, just send us an email. We're happy to have a conversation with you to see if our Summer Youth Camp Program is the right fit.

"The BRC Summer Camp is where I got my start in the sport of rowing. I had a blast as a kid in camp, and still remember the days on the water, the games, and the counsellors I had. The BRC Summer Camp is without equal when it comes to summer camps. The opportunity to learn about both disciplines in rowing (sweep and scull), as well as try different boats, is something I wish I could have experienced when I was in the Summer Camp at the BRC. I credit the start that I got in Camp for creating a love of rowing and the desire to be the best in the world!"
